There’s no place like home – and this area is one I’ve been so grateful to be a part of for the last 15 years. After growing up in Steveston in Richmond, BC, finding a place to raise my two boys in the midst of this gorgeous backdrop was a completely natural transition.
My family and I love being in close proximity to the beach and enjoy all the outdoor things together. With its seaside community vibe, and picturesque views, it’s hard to imagine doing life anywhere else.
This area is constantly growing and evolving, attracting residents from all walks of life – from growing families to retirees hoping to be close to the water.
Whether it’s a stunning view from the top of a highrise, or a quaint beach cottage that captivates you, we’ll help you find your way home.
You’re going to love it here.
Welcome to South Surrey and White Rock.
Welcome to the home of the largest pier in Canada. And with luxury highrise towers offering 180 degree views of the water, and cotton candy sunsets, it’s not one to miss. Spend a Saturday afternoon collecting fresh herbs and veggies at the White Rock Farmers Market, or grab a jalapeño margarita at the ever-popular Tacofino – it will definitely be a weekend well spent!
West Beach is trendy and fast-paced. Think, “touristy” hotspot. And, between the rooftop dining, concert series, paddle boarding and kayaking, the area caters to a very broad demographic. There is truly something for everyone here.
East Beach is where the locals hang. It’s the more serene sister to West Beach, separated by a rise in the shoreline locals call, “the hump.” This beach is particularly popular with skimboarders – and when the tide goes out, it feels like you could run for miles on nature’s very own playground.
Crescent Beach is a unique area, meeting very close to sea level. What was formerly known as a vacation destination, filled with cottages, is now seeing a trend upward in year-round residents. This is no surprise, considering the uptick in thriving local businesses. For dinner, grab a slice of delicious (and unmatched) Natalinos Pizza, or grab a plate of mussels fresh off the beach at the Seahorse Grill. And to take in the sights? There’s nothing like grabbing your family (fur babies, too) and watching the colors of a sunset unfold along the shoreline at Blackie Spit Park!
Elgin Chantrell flanks the peninsula, and proves to be a desirable and beautiful area for families and retirees alike. The neighborhood offers easy access to the highway, and with it, a gorgeous scenery. With its abundance of single family homes as well as estates, it proves to be a top location year after year. Here, you’ll enjoy all the outdoor activities the area has to offer – get in a game of golf at Nico Wynd Golf Club, spin your wheels on a bike ride along the Nikomekl River, or learn about life in the 1900s at South Surrey at the Historic Stewart Farm.
Sunnyside, with its very central location, offers desirable schools as well as access to public transportation and other amenities on the border of South Surrey-White Rock. Whether you’re looking to increase your daily step count, or are mindful of your family’s movement goals, Sunnyside is the home of several parks and activity centers, including South Surrey Athletic Park, the South Surrey arena, Softball City, South Surrey Recreation Centre, the local Skate Park and the South Surrey Track + Field facility. Be sure to check out the ever-popular Sunnyside Urban Acres Forrest, an expansive park and the best spot to run trails or simply take a long, leisurely walk to explore the unfolding and lush landscaping.
Pacific Douglas is nestled right on the border, boasting its new developments over the last 10-15 years. This area offers easy access to and up and coming retail centre with small shops, gyms, salons as well as the neighbourhood golf course The Hills at Portal along with easy access to Highway 99 and the United States border. Explore the sustainably grown flowers and veggies at the Kingfisher Market, or stroll the serene and vibrant Glades Woodland Garden.
King George Corridor spans from one end of the map to the other, and is quite literally the main drag through town. Everything is accessible, with residential areas including condos, townhouses, duplexes and detached homes. The popularity of this area continues to thrive – because, whatever phase of life or type of home residents are looking for, there’s quite literally something for everyone.
Straight up the hill is Ocean Park “proper,” where you’ll find the area’s multitude of residential homes and family friendly neighbourhoods. Explore the city’s centre at the corner of 128th Street and 16 Avenue, and shop within its flourishing local businesses. If outdoor exploration is more your game, take a picturesque hike down 1,001 steps to the ocean side!
While perhaps a little more “sleepy” in the winter, the desirable Crescent Beach comes alive during the summer months. Join up with the family-friendly Crescent Beach Swim Club, enjoy a leisurely hike through the area’s walking trails, grab a bite to eat at the Sunflower Cafe and explore what makes this area so eclectic and fun!
Nestled in the residential district, Morgan Creek features single family homes and larger estate homes around the area’s most sought-after golf course. Morgan Creek attracts residents of all ages, with its proximity to Highway 99 and accessibility to the rest of Surrey. And, be sure to grab a cup of coffee or a tasty treat from Indigo Cafe while you’re in the area or perch at Tap Restaurants sunny patio for happy hour!
Grandview is the “hub” of South Surrey, featuring the big box stores, restaurants, and grocery stores. It’s got the “hustle and bustle,” – and if you need something, Grandview definitely has it. Its convenient location is a big draw, as is its accessibility. Take a walk to a local restaurant or coffee shop, and enjoy the energy.
